FOUR YEARS LATER Giles was leaning over the desk examining the latest overheads of the terrorist camp. He was in the briefing room aboard USS Enterprise, and it was a thick smoky atmosphere, the Russians were smoking to get rid of pre-mission tension So much for no smoking in the workplace. The photos were a couple of hours old. It showed that the terrorist camp was asleep with no activity except from what looked to be a roving patrol. He looked up and nodded to his team ‘it’s a go! We leave in five minutes!’ They walked out to a Blackhawk helicopter as the grey clouds cleared leaving the moon to shine brightly across the sea. They boarded the helicopter that already had its engines turning. The Blackhawk helicopter flew low over the deck after it lifted off from USS Enterprise; it turned south and flew towards the coastline. The mood was quiet aboard they were about to go in and eliminate a terrorist cell that had been attacking Russian outposts in Siberia. The helicopter flew down towards Salekhard as the team on board conducted a final check on the weapons that they were going to use. On board were Commander Giles Kirby (or Badkarma as he had become known), Commander Chris Hale, Major Samantha Carter, Major Dimitri Yegenavich and Lieutenant Micha Ramos. This was going to be a surgical strike, straight in and straight out. At least this was the intelligence officer’s plan anyway. Badkarma wasn’t too happy with this, there too many known unknowns. These were that we know that we don’t know how many people there are to fight, we also know that we don’t know what weapons they have and what overall skill they have. The only known known’s were that we know where we are going and that they don’t know that we are hitting them tonight. ‘Five minutes!’ the pilot called. The helicopter was flying at 100ft above the water as it approached the LZ. It came into hover above the beach and descended to 6ft above the ground and allowed its passengers to jump out. As soon as they were out, they hit the deck and lay on the ground checking out the area ahead before moving off towards the objective. They moved quickly towards the ridge that lay ahead of them. Major Yegenavich took point whilst Major Carter brought up the rear. The approach to the terrorist camp was from the north and using a silenced rifle Yegenavich shot the two guards that were patrolling the area ahead of them. The first guard fell down and hit the ground with a dull thud, the second guard hit the ground, and his weapon let off a burst of gunfire as it hit the ground. That was when all hell broke loose. The remaining terrorists came out of the huts with firing wildly in all directions, most of the bullets missed them but one bullet struck Major Carter, and she went down with a blood-curdling scream. Badkarma threw a grenade in amongst the terrorists killing a handful whilst Hale and Ramos finished the others off by hosing the entire area with their Squad Automatic Weapon (SAW’s). Badkarma turned around to see how Carter was and to his horror, he noticed that she was bleeding quite badly from a chest wound, it looked like it was near the Hemiazygos vein. ‘Hale get that goddamn chopper in here STAT; tell them we have men down’ he yelled.
